Izzy is on the mend!

Izzy has had her surgery, and it went very well. She should make a full recovery. She was NOT happy about having to wear the "Cone of Shame" to keep her from licking at the wound:

She hated it, and this picture shows how miserable she was, dirty, unable to clean her face (and she wouldn't let me clean it, either). But once we were done with the antibiotics, and she was able to put some weight on the leg, the vet gave us the OK to have her groomed:

She is putting weight on the leg more and more and is progressing faster than expected. I am doing the physical therapy process the vet recommended, each day she gets better. She is actually starting to be playful again, which means she is feeling so much better.

Izzy is a wonderful dog, and your help made this possible. We thank you all so much for your help, support, encouragement, and kindness. I was feeling very low when I first found out she needed surgery, but the kindness from you all really helped not only Izzy, but me too, to know there are so many kind and caring people out there. Words cannot express our deepest gratitude. Bless you all.

Meet Izzy

Izzy is my seizure alert dog. She has served me faithfully for over 4 years, and has saved my life twice. When I was hospitalized, she only left my bed twice a day to potty. She helps me to maintain my independence. She is also a wonderful dog and my best friend.

Last week, she tore the ligament in her knee and needs surgery as soon as possible. She cannot put any weight on her back leg, she cannot get up on my bed, or in the car, and she is in pain.

I am disabled and very low income. I want to help Izzy, like she has helped me, but I cannot do it on my own. I want to get her back on all four feet again, so the two of us can continue to go out in the world and do our volunteer work - visiting vets at the VA.

I am creating a campaign to raise funds for her surgery. I will be updating this blog on a regular basis to let you know how Izzy is doing.
